101: The Shared Services Experience- A County Perspective (Admin Track)

Fairfield and Licking County Administrators will share an overview of how shared services was implemented in a 10-county area. We will be sharing best practices, strategies to develop rapport among county staff, marketing strategies, preparation steps prior to Go Live, training plans, document management alignment, and outcomes of our Canton District shared services project.

 

102: OBWP Alerts Triage- Interface Alerts...part 1 (Medicaid Track) 3-Hour session

Review of Interface Alerts in OBWP to improve understanding of functionality and improve county business processes. This is a 3-hour session, and Part II is on Friday as session #502 (also a 3-hour session).

 

103: County Monitoring: The What, Why, Who, How and Noteworthy Issues (Fiscal Track)

This session will discuss the differences between audits and monitoring, the ODJFS county monitoring approach and what to expect during the review. It will also include what technical assistance services are available. There will be noteworthy issues/recommendations discussed on the topics of Cost Allocation, Procurement, Subrecipient Monitoring, Equipment, Receipts and Program Income, TANF-PRC, Title IV-D, and Title IV-E (adoption/foster care).

 

104: Xerox Intelligent Analytics Portal: XIAP (Public Assistance Track)

The XIAP Data Warehouse delivers data in a variety of standard and geographical formats allowing user-friendly views of tabular reports, charts, graphs, and dashboards. The system offers a simple and intuitive user interface and improved performance that dramatically increases the user's ability to access business intelligence and deliver self-service reporting and analysis. Users can create, modify, and save reports to meet the requirements of their department. The system is able to compare data using Advanced Fraud analytics and target specific information.

 

105: What's My Brand? Actively Using Influence as a Resource (Human Resources Track)

We all need time, funding, and workers, but we rarely ask for more influence. Influence is the one commodity that is free. When used correctly, it boosts the effectiveness of the time, money, and workers you currently have access to. Its hard to build and easy to use, but it requires trust, honesty, and continuous communication.

 

106: Dealing with Guns, Marijuana, and Background Checks in the Workplace (Human Resources Track)

With the ever-changing legal landscape at both the state and federal level, it is crucial that employment policies and procedures are continuously updated. This session will provide insight into changes that have occurred at both the state and federal level and how they may impact policies and procedures. Some of the areas discussed will include: the impact of Ohio's recently passed concealed carry law; Ohio's medical marijuana and ban-the-box laws; navigating reasonable accommodation law; and the top employment policies you should have and why.

 

107: Medicaid: Connect the Dots (Medicaid Track)

Sometimes the hardest thing to figure out is who can help when a complicated situation arises! The Connect the Dots session will review the various resources at ODM which caseworkers can utilize to get the assistance the need.

 
108: MITS - Simplified! (Medicaid Track)

Caseworkers rely on reviewing MITS after determining eligibility to ensure proper data has crossed from OBWP to prevent or troubleshoot billing issues. This session will cover tips on where to find Medicaid benefits plans, LTC eligibility and payment panels, waiver information, Managed Care and Medicare/TBQ information.

 

109: Resource Assessments - Cliff Notes Version (Medicaid Track)

An individual needs HCBS waiver or long-term care placement in a facility- but they're married. How do you handle their income and resources? This session will cover the process for determining what income and resources are protected for the community spouse and to determine eligibility for the spouse needing Long Term Care.

 

110: Apprenticeship: A Training and Employment Option for WIOA Clients (Workforce Track)

 

Apprenticeship provides training and employment leading to successful outcomes. How can your WIOA client utilize an ITA or OJT for an apprenticeship program? This workshop will discuss the why, what, when and how.

 
 

111: Child Support Web Portal and Mobile Application (Child Support Track)

 

This session will provide an overview of the Office of Child Support's Customer Service Web Portal as well as the soon to be installed Mobile Application. Lessons learned from the development and implementation processes will be discussed as well as the benefits and challenges associated with a self-service approach to customer service.

 
 

112: Designing CCMEP for Youth Success and Program Performance (CCMEP Track)

 

This workshop will walk you through the strategic program planning process and link program design to the key CCMEP performance outcomes desired. Strategies for addressing various types of participant needs, interests, and assessment results will be addressed. Measuring CCMEP performance, reporting participant barriers and characteristics, and reporting progress and outcomes in OWCMS will be addressed.

201: CFIS Client Tracking for Case Managers ( Fiscal/ Workforce/ CCMEP Tracks)

The CFIS Client Tracking system enables OhioMeansJobs Center staff to measure customer usage of workshops and other basic services, and to link the cost of each participant's direct services to local budget set-asides. This training session, intended for both WIOA and CCMEP case managers, will offer screen-shots and live demonstration of basic service tracking, referrals to partners, importing service data from the case management system, and managing the future costs of a participant's direct services.

 

202: Medicaid Program Integrity, Enhanced! (Medicaid Track)

The Ohio Department of Medicaid is fully developing its program integrity functions. With the increase in focus on managed care, the arrival of John Maynard as Program Integrity Director and the expansion of his Bureau of Program Integrity and the appointment of Bobbi Jacobs as Program Integrity Liaison for Managed Care , the relationship and communication with the managed care plans improved and advanced. Bobbi chaired the Managed Care Program Integrity Group meetings and trainings which increased in quality and quantity since she took over. John developed the relationship the health plans even further, as well as with partner state agencies, the Ohio attorney general's office and the auditor of state. The Ohio Department of Medicaid is fully developing its program integrity functions. 203: SNAP AG Formation (Public Assistance Track)

This session will provide a review of SNAP policy with regard to how to form a SNAP assistance group as well as who may be ineligible to be included in an assistance group.

 

204: Improving Productivity through Ergonomics (Admin Track)

Ready to feel better? Ergonomics has helped to make office environments safer and more comfortable for years. Research is showing some interventions, however, are actually causing discomfort. Find out about the latest trends and fads to avoid as well as information about indoor air quality as it affects your energy level and the proper lighting to reduce eye strain. Participants will learn tips on setting up their workstations, controlling light levels, reducing glare, evaluation equipment labeled as ergonomic which should be avoided and the befits of taking micro rest periods or using sit/stand workstations.

 

205: Social Media: Blurred Boundaries in the Workplace: Privacy, Opinion, Truth and Consequences (Human Resources Track)

Employees constantly engage social media in the workplace for both for work and personal. Employees are uncertain or unable to draw the lines between the public and private, appropriate and offensive, and what may be expected is what is required of them.  This session will review the responsibilities and balancing of the interests of employees, the public and the employers.  Cases and applications for the workplace will be presented.

 

206: Child Support/ Medicaid and TANF Interface and Reconciliation (Child Support Track)

This session will provide participants with an update on the recent interface between SETS and the Ohio Benefits Medicaid system. Presenters will provide information related to the ongoing reconciliation efforts for missed Medicaid assignments and terminations, as well as updates on what's next for the Ohio Benefits TANF/SETS interface.

 

207: Ohio Child Licensing and Quality System (OCLQS) Training (Child Care Track)

Presenters will walk through various tasks within OCLQS and how to accomplish necessary steps to complete inspections, serious incidents, complaints and corrective action plans. Audience will have an opportunity to ask questions and get helpful tips on using OCLQS effectively. A demo of the off-line app for OCLQS will occur during this session as well.

 

208: Implementing a Leadership Development Program (Human Resources Track)

Fairfield County JFS will share with you the process that was undertaken to create an internal leadership development program as well as provide an overview of their existing program.

 

209: Benefit Recovery Tracking System: BRTS (Fiscal Track)

Discover how using a database created by Clark County can make completing the quarterly Fraud Control Report quick and easy! You will see a demo of the database and have the opportunity to ask questions, provide suggestions, and pick the brain of the designer as well as the expert in Fraud Control.

 

210: A Primer on the Learn, Innovate, Improve Process: LI2 (CCMEP Track)

LI2 is a collaborative planning process involving researchers and practitioners to ensure that interventions such as CCMEP are well designed and implemented. By facilitating this process, Mathematica aims to: 1) Inspire and support innovative and sustainable program improvement; 2) Improve program quality, efficiency, and effectiveness; and 3) Build the knowledge base for serving targeted populations such as CCMEP participants. The process helps key stakeholders clarify their motivation for change and pinpoint the problem they are trying to fix, explore and design science -informed, research-based solutions that map to the problems identified, and implement "road tests" to improve program design and implementation. Learn how this process provides timely information to decision-makers, identifies promising practices and generates evidence about what works for what populations.

301: CFIS Automated MOU (Fiscal, Workforce, CCMEP Tracks)

This session is intended for staff responsible for the OhioMeansJobs Center budget and partner contributions. New tools in the CFIS Client Tracking system were created to manage the MOU budget while simplifying the reconciliation process. Screen shots and live demonstrations will explain how to configure each Center's expense types, enter planned costs, compute partner shares, and track actual expenses against the budget. This presentation is similar to in-person sessions provided in March to prepare all local areas for entry of their 2018 MOU budgets into the system.

 

302: The Problem Employee (Human Resources Track)

Every agency has one. This session will cover various Human Resources issues that arise when dealing with that "problem employee".

 

303: Everybody Talks About Program Integrity, But What Is It? Improving QC, ME and Fraud Control Outcomes (Public Assistance Track)

Specialists frequently visit CDJFS to perform federally mandated reviews. While each type of review is separate and has a specific objective, county agencies can take a few actions that are guaranteed to improve the results of all of these reviews. This session will give CDJFS managers and staff some specific steps that they can take to improve the results of their reviews, to reduce or eliminate the number of corrective action plans (CAPs) or continuous improvement plans (CIPs) required of them, and to increase their chances of preventing and detecting fraud. The presentation will focus on SNAP

 

304: Working with Interpreters for Non-English Speaking Populations (Admin Track)

This session will cover what should be expected of interpreters in an agency translation situation, and the challenges associated with interpreting.

 

305: Long Term Care Case Processing: The Journey from Beginning to End (Medicaid Track)

Processing Long Term Care eligibility is complicated! Join us for an overview session where LTC scenarios will be stepped out from start to finish. This session will be repeated on Friday as session #705.

 

306: SNAP: Application Timeliness (Public Assistance Track)

The workshop will provide a policy overview of application timeliness including but not limited to: expedited processing; normal 30 day application processing; early denials; override scenarios; and delayed application processing.  

307: Getting Paid: Child Support Funding and the Federal Model (Child Support Track)

Find out how the delivery of essential child support services impacts Ohio's federal funding. This session will focus on how Ohio competes with other states for federal incentive dollars. In addition it will review other sources of funds that can be secured through case management and enforcement activities.

 

308: RMS (Fiscal Track)

The session will provide an overview of the Random Moment Sampling (RMS) system including discussions about the impact of RMS, importance of timeliness and accuracy when completing RMS moments and what constitutes good documentation.

 

309: Serving Families & Communities as One (Child Support Track)

This session will discuss the Parenting Time Opportunities for Children (PTOC) grant, including how it helps us service moms/ dads/ children and collaborate with community partners for a common purpose. The process of establishing a parenting time order will be explained as well as continuing services past the grant period.

 

310: Putting CCMEP in 1st Gear (CCMEP Track)

Planning has been underway, changes have been made in the way business is done, and CCMEP implementation in in progress. Now it's time to take the program to a new level. This workshop will cover strategies to accelerate CCMEP enrollment and expenditures, expand how CCMEP can address youth and community needs, procure collaboratively, conduct effective outreach, improve applicant "show rates", and co-fund participant services. Time will be reserved to address specific concerns of counties and local areas.

401: Help! I'm a Call Center Manager! (Admin Track)

As technology advances, so do the expectations of our clients for customer service and access to information. There are 39 counties that are active on the County Shared Services Enterprise call center platform. Providing an additional channel for clients to apply for and renew benefits brings with it additional challenges for agency managers. In this interactive session, you will learn best practices and techniques for effective call center management and hear how the CSS Project is working to improve benefit processing efficiencies.

 

402: Case Packaging, Investigation and Seven Tenets of Just Cause (Public Assistance Track)

This session will prepare employers to properly "define a discipline case". From the initial investigation to ensuring you meet the "just cause" standard, we will discuss unique investigation considerations, case packaging and other liability concerns.

 

403: Medicaid and Incarceration: Everything You Need to Know (Medicaid Track)

Overview of Medicaid eligibility for individuals in the custody of DRC, DYS or county jail.

 

404: New Beginnings for New Fathers (Child Support Track)

This session will highlight the New Beginnings for New Fathers (NBNF) program. This program serves to help fathers strengthen their relationships with their children and the mothers of their children, to improve the long-term economic stability of vulnerable families, and to help fathers overcome barriers that prevent them from being effective and nurturing parents. Direct services with fathers include outreach, engagement, job readiness, employment, parenting skills and focus on safe sleep and infant mortality rate reduction. This session will be repeated on Friday, session #702.

 

405: SNAP: Capers Findings and Strategies to Address Them (Public Assistance Track)

We will review the most frequent types of error pertaining to SNAP denials and terminations and share ideas on how to reduce these error findings.

 

406: Wired to Succeed (Workforce Track)

Over 50% of Fortune 100 Companies use assessments to improve hiring, services and engagement. In this session, you will learn how you are naturally wired for idea flow, communication, work style and decision-making; why this is important; and how organizations such as the Allen Economic Development Group and the West Ohio Community Action Partnership are using assessments such as AcuMax to partner with local employers to better match clients to open job opportunities and for their internal staffing purposes.

 

407: Child Support Legal and Policy Developments (Child Support Track)

This session will provide an overview of the 2017 Child Support Guidelines Review and proposed legislation associated with it and expected changes to the program as a result of the recent issuance of revised federal regulations (Flexibility, Efficiency, and Modernization in Child Support Enforcement Programs).

 

408: Understanding & Maximizing JFS Allocations (Fiscal Track)

This session will include an updated reference guide of all JFS allocations (PA, PCSA, CSEA and WIOA). We will review the allocations, the rules governing their use and discuss how these funds can be best maximized at the county level.

 

409: What Brain Science Says About Getting Good Outcomes for Youth (CCMEP Track)

Research by the Harvard Center on the Developing Child provides clear evidence about the core capabilities adults need for their success as workers and parents. This workshop will address key questions: What are those core capabilities? Is your CCMEP service delivery structured to build those core capabilities? How can we provide positive opportunities to develop and practice those skills? What changes can you make to help youth and young adults achieve better outcomes?

501: Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (Workforce Track)

Gain insight into how the Vocational Rehabilitation program can partner with JFS county agencies to improve employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Get an overview of the VR program as a WIOA CORE partner including the basic overview of eligibility and the VR process. Share information on how local agencies can refer potentially eligible individuals to OOD through OODWorks.com and through OOD staff location in regional offices and OhioMeansJobs Centers. Q&A time in this session can support discussion on co-enrollment, improving outcomes for individuals with disabilities or other questions.

 

502: OBWP Alerts Triage- IEVS Alerts: part 2 (Medicaid Track) 3-hour session

Review of all IEVS Alerts to better understand function and county business processes.

503: Effective Onboarding Strategies for New Employees (Human Resources Track)

Participants will receive an overview in learning effective strategies and techniques used by Clark, Delaware and Hamilton Counties in the development and implementation of general orientation programs and training curriculum for all JFS staff. Participants will gain insight as to the benefits of how programs and curriculum successfully transition new hires to satisfied long term employees.

 

504: Managed Care: Program, Enrollment, Eligibility, and Initiatives (Medicaid Track)

The session will include overviews of the Medicaid Managed Care and MyCare Ohio programs with a focus on ODM's role, the CDJFS' role, and impacts to consumers; highlights of current managed care initiatives; the vision for the future of managed care in Ohio's Medicaid program, and time for questions from session participants.

506: Family Child Care Licensing Jeopardy (Child Care Track)

Come join us as county agency family child care licensing workers play against each other for the title of Family Child Care Licensing Jeopardy champions! This session will allow participants to learn or to refresh their knowledge regarding Family Child Care Licensing rules and procedures in a fun and interactive environment by choosing from different categories to test your skills.

 

507: Yoga with Joe

This intro to yoga will include a 10 to 15 minute informal presentation on yoga and related health benefit research followed by a 45 minute chair yoga session including some opening breath work and a closing period of meditation. Also included will be the practice of a 5 minute sequence that folks can do at their desk during the work day.

Comfortable clothes recommended.

 

508: Human Trafficking: Modern Day Slavery (Admin Track)

Human Trafficking has received increasing attention in recent years. Ohio has gone from a state where very little was understood and little public policy addressed the issue to identifying a growing number of victims. This session will provide an in-depth look into human trafficking and help participants become familiar with what victims experience. Participants will learn observation skills to determine questions to ask vulnerable adults and assist with identifying and assisting victims of human trafficking.

509: SNAP Employment & Training Strategies (Public Assistance Track)

We will present strategies in SNAP Employment & Training programs including Career Pathways and utilizing SNAP E&T funds. Specific topics that will be covered include employing OhioMeansJobs.com assessments, career exploration tools and training modules to develop a career pathway for SNAP E&T participants. Additionally, we will discuss SNAP E&T funding basics and how strategies on how to use SNAP E&T funds.

 
510: Kids These Days! Preparing At-Risk Youth for Workplace Success (CCMEP Track) Troubled youth often have difficulty getting along with peers and following directions from authority figures in their personal lives. As they reach adulthood, many bring their home-based attitudes and expectations to the workplace, where they can cause serious adjustment problems. This dynamic workshop explores employers' unspoken expectations, and explains why at-risk youth and young adults have trouble adapting to the culture of the workplace. Drawing from a highly successful soft skills program, it offers specific strategies for teaching them how to work through workplace problems rather than blowing them out of proportion. Attendees receive a helpful follow-up article to summarize the workshop and share with colleagues.

601: Strategies to Enhance Employee Retention (Human Resources Track)

A significant amount of financial resources is spent on employees. Unfortunately, we do not always give enough thought about how or why we spend this money. This presentation will address ways to enhance employee retention in union and non-unionized environments. We will discuss how to determine what will work and how to shift resources in a manner that makes most sense. Focus will be on monetary and non-monetary ways to enhance retention from a legal and practical standpoint.

 

602: Client Centered Approach to Achieving Performance Outcomes (Workforce Track)

WIOA focuses on prioritizing services for low income clients. This workshop will show participants how to use a client-centered approach to providing services, overcoming barriers with appropriate referrals, getting the customer on the right path through the correct WIOA program and/or funding stream, and to the road to meeting and achieving goals and outcomes.

This session will cover an overview of the Specialized Recovery Services (SRS), Medicare Buy-In for Workers with Disabilities (MBIWD), Residential State Supplement (RSS), Breast and Cervical Cancer Project (BCCP), and Presumptive Eligibility (PE) programs.

 

605: OWF: SFU Determination (Public Assistance Track)

This session will provide informational tools to aid in forming various OWF assistance groups.

 

606: CCMEP Fiscal Overview (Fiscal/ Public Assistance/ CCMEP Tracks)

Review of the CCMEP fiscal process and how to maximize the use of CCMEP funding. How to process client costs in Ledger Reporting (LR) and the Client Level Tracking (CLT) systems. Discuss the importance of co-funding to the benefit of all clients.

 

607: Paternity Establishment (Child Support Track)

This session will provide an overview of Paternity Establishment, including how paternity is established, the different methods of establishment, the recording of establishment and the effects of paternity establishment on funding.

609: I'm Just Not Sure ... An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI) with Unmotivated Youth (CCMEP Track)

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a non-judgmental, semi-directive counseling strategy used to increase one's openness to change. Though originally used with addicted adults, in the past 30 years MI concepts have been successfully extended to a variety of challenging populations, including at-risk youth. This highly interactive workshop (primarily for non-clinical staff) with Dr. Steve Parese explores the use of MI strategies with change-resistant youth. We begin with an examination of five predictable stages of change, defining behaviors and thinking common to each. Next, we contrast traditional persuasive counseling with the more evocative MI approach. Using numerous exercises and examples, we then practice the essential elements of MI: open questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries. Attendees receive a helpful follow-up article to summarize the workshop and share with colleagues.

701: Succession Planning- A Little Planning Can Go a Long Way (Human Resources Track)

One of the most overlooked areas in the public sector is planning for the future. Often we are so focused on dealing with the day-to-day issues and the changing workplace that we do not spend the time considering how the organization will look in 5 to 10 years. This session will focus on the best practices for succession planning in the DJFS taking into account both union and non-union environments as well as civil services issues. We will look at succession planning at the Director level along with other positions within the agency. Emphasis will be on both legal and practical issues. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences.

706: "SNAP-ARDY!" SNAP Policy Challenge (Public Assistance Track)

An interactive game (in the format of the popular "Jeopardy!" game show) that tests participants' knowledge of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) policy. Teams comprised of County JFS Staff will vie for the 2017 championship title, won by Allen CDJFS in 2016. Brought to you by the ODJFS Quality Initiatives team to help make learning fun and to showcase SNAP policy expertise among county agencies!

 

707: Title XX Federal Reporting- Data Collection Tool Update (Fiscal Track)

709: Leave Me Alone! Wait, Don't Go! Building Relationships with Self-Defeating Youth (CCMEP Track)

Emotionally troubled youth have learned to be relationship-wary. To avoid deeper loss and pain, they have developed patterns of behavior that allow them to control disappointments by sabotaging relationships before they fail on their own. Unaware, staff may find themselves feeding into these self-defeating patterns, rejecting the youth instead of the behavior. This inspiring workshop with Dr. Steve Parese explores these self-defeating behaviors, offering valuable insights and skills needed to maintain a helping role with very challenging youth. Attendees receive a helpful follow-up article to summarize the workshop and share with colleagues.

The system offers a simple and intuitive user interface and improved performance that dramatically increases the user's ability to access business intelligence and deliver self-service reporting and analysis. Users can create, modify, and save reports to meet the requirements of their department. The system is able to compare data using Advanced Fraud analytics and target specific information.   105: What's My Brand? Actively Using Influence as a Resource (Human Resources Track) We all need time, funding, and workers, but we rarely ask for more influence. Influence is the one commodity that is free. When used correctly, it boosts the effectiveness of the time, money, and workers you currently have access to. Its hard to build and easy to use, but it requires trust, honesty, and continuous communication.   106: Dealing with Guns, Marijuana, and Background Checks in the Workplace (Human Resources Track) With the ever-changing legal landscape at both the state and federal level, it is crucial that employment policies and procedures are continuously updated. This session will provide insight into changes that have occurred at both the state and federal level and how they may impact policies and procedures. Some of the areas discussed will include: the impact of Ohio's recently passed concealed carry law; Ohio's medical marijuana and ban-the-box laws; navigating reasonable accommodation law; and the top employment policies you should have and why.   107: Medicaid: Connect the Dots (Medicaid Track) Sometimes the hardest thing to figure out is who can help when a complicated situation arises! The Connect the Dots session will review the various resources at ODM which caseworkers can utilize to get the assistance the need.   108: MITS - Simplified! (Medicaid Track) Caseworkers rely on reviewing MITS after determining eligibility to ensure proper data has crossed from OBWP to prevent or troubleshoot billing issues. This session will cover tips on where to find Medicaid benefits plans, LTC eligibility and payment panels, waiver information, Managed Care and Medicare/TBQ information.   109: Resource Assessments - Cliff Notes Version (Medicaid Track) An individual needs HCBS waiver or long-term care placement in a facility- but they're married. How do you handle their income and resources? This session will cover the process for determining what income and resources are protected for the community spouse and to determine eligibility for the spouse needing Long Term Care.   110: Apprenticeship: A Training and Employment Option for WIOA Clients (Workforce Track)   Apprenticeship provides training and employment leading to successful outcomes. How can your WIOA client utilize an ITA or OJT for an apprenticeship program? This workshop will discuss the why, what, when and how.     111: Child Support Web Portal and Mobile Application (Child Support Track)   This session will provide an overview of the Office of Child Support's Customer Service Web Portal as well as the soon to be installed Mobile Application. Lessons learned from the development and implementation processes will be discussed as well as the benefits and challenges associated with a self-service approach to customer service.     112: Designing CCMEP for Youth Success and Program Performance (CCMEP Track)   This workshop will walk you through the strategic program planning process and link program design to the key CCMEP performance outcomes desired. Strategies for addressing various types of participant needs, interests, and assessment results will be addressed. Measuring CCMEP performance, reporting participant barriers and characteristics, and reporting progress and outcomes in OWCMS will be addressed.         Thursday, May 18: 200 series. 10:45 am – 12:15 p.m. 201: CFIS Client Tracking for Case Managers ( Fiscal/ Workforce/ CCMEP Tracks) The CFIS Client Tracking system enables OhioMeansJobs Center staff to measure customer usage of workshops and other basic services, and to link the cost of each participant's direct services to local budget set-asides. This training session, intended for both WIOA and CCMEP case managers, will offer screen-shots and live demonstration of basic service tracking, referrals to partners, importing service data from the case management system, and managing the future costs of a participant's direct services.   202: Medicaid Program Integrity, Enhanced! Bobbi chaired the Managed Care Program Integrity Group meetings and trainings which increased in quality and quantity since she took over. John developed the relationship the health plans even further, as well as with partner state agencies, the Ohio attorney general's office and the auditor of state. Ergonomics has helped to make office environments safer and more comfortable for years. Research is showing some interventions, however, are actually causing discomfort. Find out about the latest trends and fads to avoid as well as information about indoor air quality as it affects your energy level and the proper lighting to reduce eye strain. Participants will learn tips on setting up their workstations, controlling light levels, reducing glare, evaluation equipment labeled as ergonomic which should be avoided and the befits of taking micro rest periods or using sit/stand workstations.   205: Social Media: Blurred Boundaries in the Workplace: Privacy, Opinion, Truth and Consequences (Human Resources Track) Employees constantly engage social media in the workplace for both for work and personal. Employees are uncertain or unable to draw the lines between the public and private, appropriate and offensive, and what may be expected is what is required of them.  This session will review the responsibilities and balancing of the interests of employees, the public and the employers.  Cases and applications for the workplace will be presented.   206: Child Support/ Medicaid and TANF Interface and Reconciliation (Child Support Track) This session will provide participants with an update on the recent interface between SETS and the Ohio Benefits Medicaid system. Presenters will provide information related to the ongoing reconciliation efforts for missed Medicaid assignments and terminations, as well as updates on what's next for the Ohio Benefits TANF/SETS interface.   207: Ohio Child Licensing and Quality System (OCLQS) Training (Child Care Track) Presenters will walk through various tasks within OCLQS and how to accomplish necessary steps to complete inspections, serious incidents, complaints and corrective action plans. Audience will have an opportunity to ask questions and get helpful tips on using OCLQS effectively. A demo of the off-line app for OCLQS will occur during this session as well.   208: Implementing a Leadership Development Program (Human Resources Track) Fairfield County JFS will share with you the process that was undertaken to create an internal leadership development program as well as provide an overview of their existing program.   209: Benefit Recovery Tracking System: BRTS (Fiscal Track) Discover how using a database created by Clark County can make completing the quarterly Fraud Control Report quick and easy! You will see a demo of the database and have the opportunity to ask questions, provide suggestions, and pick the brain of the designer as well as the expert in Fraud Control.   210: A Primer on the Learn, Innovate, Improve Process: LI2 (CCMEP Track) LI2 is a collaborative planning process involving researchers and practitioners to ensure that interventions such as CCMEP are well designed and implemented. By facilitating this process, Mathematica aims to: 1) Inspire and support innovative and sustainable program improvement; 2) Improve program quality, efficiency, and effectiveness; and 3) Build the knowledge base for serving targeted populations such as CCMEP participants. The process helps key stakeholders clarify their motivation for change and pinpoint the problem they are trying to fix, explore and design science -informed, research-based solutions that map to the problems identified, and implement "road tests" to improve program design and implementation. Learn how this process provides timely information to decision-makers, identifies promising practices and generates evidence about what works for what populations.         Thursday, May 18: 300 series 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. 301: CFIS Automated MOU (Fiscal, Workforce, CCMEP Tracks) This session is intended for staff responsible for the OhioMeansJobs Center budget and partner contributions. New tools in the CFIS Client Tracking system were created to manage the MOU budget while simplifying the reconciliation process. Screen shots and live demonstrations will explain how to configure each Center's expense types, enter planned costs, compute partner shares, and track actual expenses against the budget. This presentation is similar to in-person sessions provided in March to prepare all local areas for entry of their 2018 MOU budgets into the system.   302: The Problem Employee (Human Resources Track) Every agency has one. This session will cover various Human Resources issues that arise when dealing with that "problem employee".   303: Everybody Talks About Program Integrity, But What Is It? Improving QC, ME and Fraud Control Outcomes (Public Assistance Track) Specialists frequently visit CDJFS to perform federally mandated reviews. While each type of review is separate and has a specific objective, county agencies can take a few actions that are guaranteed to improve the results of all of these reviews. This session will give CDJFS managers and staff some specific steps that they can take to improve the results of their reviews, to reduce or eliminate the number of corrective action plans (CAPs) or continuous improvement plans (CIPs) required of them, and to increase their chances of preventing and detecting fraud. The presentation will focus on SNAP   304: Working with Interpreters for Non-English Speaking Populations (Admin Track) This session will cover what should be expected of interpreters in an agency translation situation, and the challenges associated with interpreting.   305: Long Term Care Case Processing: The Journey from Beginning to End (Medicaid Track) Processing Long Term Care eligibility is complicated! Join us for an overview session where LTC scenarios will be stepped out from start to finish. This session will be repeated on Friday as session #705.   306: SNAP: Application Timeliness (Public Assistance Track) The workshop will provide a policy overview of application timeliness including but not limited to: expedited processing; normal 30 day application processing; early denials; override scenarios; and delayed application processing.   307: Getting Paid: Child Support Funding and the Federal Model (Child Support Track) Find out how the delivery of essential child support services impacts Ohio's federal funding. This session will focus on how Ohio competes with other states for federal incentive dollars. In addition it will review other sources of funds that can be secured through case management and enforcement activities.   308: RMS (Fiscal Track) The session will provide an overview of the Random Moment Sampling (RMS) system including discussions about the impact of RMS, importance of timeliness and accuracy when completing RMS moments and what constitutes good documentation.   309: Serving Families & Communities as One (Child Support Track) This session will discuss the Parenting Time Opportunities for Children (PTOC) grant, including how it helps us service moms/ dads/ children and collaborate with community partners for a common purpose. The process of establishing a parenting time order will be explained as well as continuing services past the grant period.   310: Putting CCMEP in 1st Gear (CCMEP Track) Planning has been underway, changes have been made in the way business is done, and CCMEP implementation in in progress. Now it's time to take the program to a new level. This workshop will cover strategies to accelerate CCMEP enrollment and expenditures, expand how CCMEP can address youth and community needs, procure collaboratively, conduct effective outreach, improve applicant "show rates", and co-fund participant services. Time will be reserved to address specific concerns of counties and local areas.         Thursday, May 18: 100 series. 3:15 – 4:45 p.m. 401: Help! I'm a Call Center Manager! (Admin Track) As technology advances, so do the expectations of our clients for customer service and access to information. There are 39 counties that are active on the County Shared Services Enterprise call center platform. Providing an additional channel for clients to apply for and renew benefits brings with it additional challenges for agency managers. In this interactive session, you will learn best practices and techniques for effective call center management and hear how the CSS Project is working to improve benefit processing efficiencies.   402: Case Packaging, Investigation and Seven Tenets of Just Cause (Public Assistance Track) This session will prepare employers to properly "define a discipline case". From the initial investigation to ensuring you meet the "just cause" standard, we will discuss unique investigation considerations, case packaging and other liability concerns.   403: Medicaid and Incarceration: Everything You Need to Know (Medicaid Track) Overview of Medicaid eligibility for individuals in the custody of DRC, DYS or county jail.   404: New Beginnings for New Fathers (Child Support Track) This session will highlight the New Beginnings for New Fathers (NBNF) program. This program serves to help fathers strengthen their relationships with their children and the mothers of their children, to improve the long-term economic stability of vulnerable families, and to help fathers overcome barriers that prevent them from being effective and nurturing parents. Direct services with fathers include outreach, engagement, job readiness, employment, parenting skills and focus on safe sleep and infant mortality rate reduction. This session will be repeated on Friday, session #702.   405: SNAP: Capers Findings and Strategies to Address Them (Public Assistance Track) We will review the most frequent types of error pertaining to SNAP denials and terminations and share ideas on how to reduce these error findings.   406: Wired to Succeed (Workforce Track) Over 50% of Fortune 100 Companies use assessments to improve hiring, services and engagement. In this session, you will learn how you are naturally wired for idea flow, communication, work style and decision-making; why this is important; and how organizations such as the Allen Economic Development Group and the West Ohio Community Action Partnership are using assessments such as AcuMax to partner with local employers to better match clients to open job opportunities and for their internal staffing purposes.   407: Child Support Legal and Policy Developments (Child Support Track) This session will provide an overview of the 2017 Child Support Guidelines Review and proposed legislation associated with it and expected changes to the program as a result of the recent issuance of revised federal regulations (Flexibility, Efficiency, and Modernization in Child Support Enforcement Programs).   408: Understanding & Maximizing JFS Allocations (Fiscal Track) This session will include an updated reference guide of all JFS allocations (PA, PCSA, CSEA and WIOA). We will review the allocations, the rules governing their use and discuss how these funds can be best maximized at the county level.   409: What Brain Science Says About Getting Good Outcomes for Youth (CCMEP Track) Research by the Harvard Center on the Developing Child provides clear evidence about the core capabilities adults need for their success as workers and parents. This workshop will address key questions: What are those core capabilities? Is your CCMEP service delivery structured to build those core capabilities? How can we provide positive opportunities to develop and practice those skills? What changes can you make to help youth and young adults achieve better outcomes?         Friday, May 19: 500 series. 9am-10:30 am 501: Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (Workforce Track) Gain insight into how the Vocational Rehabilitation program can partner with JFS county agencies to improve employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Get an overview of the VR program as a WIOA CORE partner including the basic overview of eligibility and the VR process. Share information on how local agencies can refer potentially eligible individuals to OOD through OODWorks.com and through OOD staff location in regional offices and OhioMeansJobs Centers. Q&A time in this session can support discussion on co-enrollment, improving outcomes for individuals with disabilities or other questions.   502: OBWP Alerts Triage- IEVS Alerts: part 2 (Medicaid Track) 3-hour session Review of all IEVS Alerts to better understand function and county business processes. This session will allow participants to learn or to refresh their knowledge regarding Family Child Care Licensing rules and procedures in a fun and interactive environment by choosing from different categories to test your skills.   507: Yoga with Joe This intro to yoga will include a 10 to 15 minute informal presentation on yoga and related health benefit research followed by a 45 minute chair yoga session including some opening breath work and a closing period of meditation. Also included will be the practice of a 5 minute sequence that folks can do at their desk during the work day. Comfortable clothes recommended.   508: Human Trafficking: Modern Day Slavery (Admin Track) Human Trafficking has received increasing attention in recent years. Ohio has gone from a state where very little was understood and little public policy addressed the issue to identifying a growing number of victims. This session will provide an in-depth look into human trafficking and help participants become familiar with what victims experience. Participants will learn observation skills to determine questions to ask vulnerable adults and assist with identifying and assisting victims of human trafficking. This session is repeated: Session #608   509: SNAP Employment & Training Strategies (Public Assistance Track) We will present strategies in SNAP Employment & Training programs including Career Pathways and utilizing SNAP E&T funds. Preparing At-Risk Youth for Workplace Success (CCMEP Track) Troubled youth often have difficulty getting along with peers and following directions from authority figures in their personal lives. As they reach adulthood, many bring their home-based attitudes and expectations to the workplace, where they can cause serious adjustment problems. This dynamic workshop explores employers' unspoken expectations, and explains why at-risk youth and young adults have trouble adapting to the culture of the workplace. Drawing from a highly successful soft skills program, it offers specific strategies for teaching them how to work through workplace problems rather than blowing them out of proportion. Attendees receive a helpful follow-up article to summarize the workshop and share with colleagues.         Friday, May 19: 600 series. 10:30 am – 12:15 p.m. 601: Strategies to Enhance Employee Retention (Human Resources Track) A significant amount of financial resources is spent on employees. Unfortunately, we do not always give enough thought about how or why we spend this money. This presentation will address ways to enhance employee retention in union and non-unionized environments. We will discuss how to determine what will work and how to shift resources in a manner that makes most sense. Focus will be on monetary and non-monetary ways to enhance retention from a legal and practical standpoint.   602: Client Centered Approach to Achieving Performance Outcomes (Workforce Track) WIOA focuses on prioritizing services for low income clients. (Public Assistance Track) Using Business Intelligence Channel (BIC) and CRIS-E to analyze your Work Program.   604: Special Medicaid Programs (Medicaid Track) Special Medicaid programs can sometimes be confusing. This session will cover an overview of the Specialized Recovery Services (SRS), Medicare Buy-In for Workers with Disabilities (MBIWD), Residential State Supplement (RSS), Breast and Cervical Cancer Project (BCCP), and Presumptive Eligibility (PE) programs.   605: OWF: SFU Determination (Public Assistance Track) This session will provide informational tools to aid in forming various OWF assistance groups.   606: CCMEP Fiscal Overview (Fiscal/ Public Assistance/ CCMEP Tracks) Review of the CCMEP fiscal process and how to maximize the use of CCMEP funding. How to process client costs in Ledger Reporting (LR) and the Client Level Tracking (CLT) systems. An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI) with Unmotivated Youth (CCMEP Track) Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a non-judgmental, semi-directive counseling strategy used to increase one's openness to change. Though originally used with addicted adults, in the past 30 years MI concepts have been successfully extended to a variety of challenging populations, including at-risk youth. This highly interactive workshop (primarily for non-clinical staff) with Dr. Steve Parese explores the use of MI strategies with change-resistant youth. We begin with an examination of five predictable stages of change, defining behaviors and thinking common to each. Next, we contrast traditional persuasive counseling with the more evocative MI approach. Using numerous exercises and examples, we then practice the essential elements of MI: open questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries. Attendees receive a helpful follow-up article to summarize the workshop and share with colleagues.         Friday, May 19: 700 series 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. 701: Succession Planning- A Little Planning Can Go a Long Way (Human Resources Track) One of the most overlooked areas in the public sector is planning for the future. Often we are so focused on dealing with the day-to-day issues and the changing workplace that we do not spend the time considering how the organization will look in 5 to 10 years. This session will focus on the best practices for succession planning in the DJFS taking into account both union and non-union environments as well as civil services issues. We will look at succession planning at the Director level along with other positions within the agency. Emphasis will be on both legal and practical issues. SNAP Policy Challenge (Public Assistance Track) An interactive game (in the format of the popular "Jeopardy!" game show) that tests participants' knowledge of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) policy. Teams comprised of County JFS Staff will vie for the 2017 championship title, won by Allen CDJFS in 2016. Brought to you by the ODJFS Quality Initiatives team to help make learning fun and to showcase SNAP policy expertise among county agencies!   707: Title XX Federal Reporting- Data Collection Tool Update (Fiscal Track) The session will provide an overview of revisions to the Title XX Federal Reporting Data Collection Tool including discussions about the new changes to the system, reports, and code definitions.   708: 5 Generations in the Workplace: How to Make Work Meaningful for All (Human Resources Track) For the first time in modern history, people from five generations must regularly interact with each other in the workplace. The challenges of gaining understanding of other generations and how they think can be an obstacle that creates conflict and miscommunication.   709: Leave Me Alone! Wait, Don't Go! Building Relationships with Self-Defeating Youth (CCMEP Track) Emotionally troubled youth have learned to be relationship-wary. To avoid deeper loss and pain, they have developed patterns of behavior that allow them to control disappointments by sabotaging relationships before they fail on their own. Unaware, staff may find themselves feeding into these self-defeating patterns, rejecting the youth instead of the behavior. This inspiring workshop with Dr. Steve Parese explores these self-defeating behaviors, offering valuable insights and skills needed to maintain a helping role with very challenging youth.
