Starting Salary Range:  $64,272

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The purpose of this classification is to perform plan examination duties, commercial and residential building inspections and building official duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, architectural drawings, and reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate. Responsible for commercial and residential plan review, commercial and/or residential building inspections and verification of conformance with the approved plans if required. Review and issue responses to documents submitted for compliance with the OBC/RCO.
  • Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing Microsoft Word, Access, BDS, Excel, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, email, and financial record keeping software; and operates/maintains general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
  • Communicates with the general public, commission office, elected and appointed officials, outside agencies, townships, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to community development; maintains an awareness of new procedures, trends and advances in the profession; participates in continuing education activities; attends meetings, workshops and seminars as appropriate.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning or related field; supplemented by ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience implementing community development programs and services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Must be a registered architect or engineer.  Must have additional State of Ohio certifications:  Plans Examiner, Building Official, and Building Inspector.  Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and required insurance coverage.
