Vehicle Operator (UCATS Driver)

Job Description:

This is an unclassified, non-exempt, intermittent part-time position in our Union County Agency Transportation Service (UCATS) department. Primary work duties include: driving assigned vehicle to transport clients to receive assistance or services; assisting disabled passengers into and out of vehicles, or to and from homes, as needed; performing basic vehicle preventive maintenance; recording and preparing required logs and/or reports; attending all required training classes; follows all safety policies and/or traffic laws; and ensures related equipment is present and operational. Represents Agency in a professional, courteous manner at all times.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Secondary education.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of Ohio traffic laws and regulations.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and insurability under Union County’s policy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective use of technology (e.g. GPS/navigation systems, email).
  • Must be capable of passing a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation.

Unusual Working Conditions or Hazards:

Exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment; possible exposure to unclean or unsanitary conditions; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; has exposure to potentially vicious animals; is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines; works in or around crowds; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; has exposure to second hand smoke; ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; may work irregular hours.

Pay Rate: Starting pay $13.55/hr. - $16.26/hr.

Benefits: This position works intermittently (as scheduled), on a part-time basis. This position is eligible for sick leave accrual upon employment and participation in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS). Credit for prior qualifying public sector service may also be granted (in accordance with established rules and guidelines).
