Description:

The Union County Department of Job and Family Services is now hiring a full-time Children Services Caseworker (Social Services Worker) in our Children Services Unit. The primary duties of this position include assessment of safety issues, case management services for abused, neglected and dependent children and their families; providing supportive services to children and their families; and evaluating the needs of children and families. Recommends appropriate action and testifies in Court on behalf of children; prepares and compiles documentation used in record-keeping and Court hearings; completes assessments for Adult Protective Services as assigned; and performs other related duties. This position rotates as the after-hours, on-call worker.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Required Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, human services, psychology, criminology, social work, education, or related field.
  • Preferred experience in assessing risk/safety issues for children and families; recognizing the signs of domestic violence and its relationship to child abuse; interviewing persons; investigating cases; intervening; and providing services to children/families. Other Requirements:
  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and insurability under Union County’s policy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective use of technology.
  • Must be capable of passing a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation.

Unusual Working Conditions or Hazards:

The employee is exposed to unclean or unsanitary conditions; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; has exposure to potentially vicious animals; has exposure to bed bugs, lice, scabies and other insects; works in or around crowds; works irregular hours. Pay Range: $17.90/hr. - $21.92/hr. (starting salary DOQ) Benefits: This is a full-time classified, non-exempt position. This position is eligible for health, dental, vision and life insurance, paid leave programs (including paid holidays, sick leave accrual upon employment, vacation (after one year of service), and participation in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS). For purposes of calculating vacation and sick leave accruals, employees may receive credit for prior public agency service (in accordance with established rules and regulations).
