GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

In the BenefitsPlus division, interviews applicants to determine their initial eligibility for one or more agency programs or services, conducts interviews and/or assessments of clients and/or applicants for a variety of programs and seeks to resolve barriers to employment. Maintains communication with ongoing clients to determine their continued eligibility for assistance. Performs miscellaneous tasks associated with the duties of the Eligibility/Referral unit (e.g., files; scans records, answers telephones). Refers potential fraud issues for investigation. Prepares letter of notification to customers regarding change in status of their case; may appear at state hearings; may answer routine inquiries regarding programs from general public, other community agencies or officials. This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced pressured environment, maintain accurate records, the ability to multi-task and remain calm and professional at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Employment experience in a position requiring interaction with the public

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in a Human Services related field.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with local resources and service agencies.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Must be proficient in use of Word and must be able to quickly learn other computer programs as needed.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:

The incumbent is responsible for placing clients into appropriate programs and keeping track of their progress. However, they are not directly responsible for the safety of others. Additionally, the incumbent works in an office setting where the probability of injuries is low. The office setting, like most offices, may be slightly dirty or noisy at times. In addition, the incumbent could be exposed to contagious diseases while working with clients. The incumbent may occasionally interact with angry or hostile clients.
