Starting Hourly Pay Rate:  $13.26

Pay Range:  C

Classification:  Full-time, Classified, Non-exempt

This position is in the Bargaining Unit.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Maintains communication with public assistance customers who have previously been determined to be eligible for public assistance. Determines initial and on-going eligibility for Prevention, Retention, Contingency emergency assistance, child care, and transportation services which includes interviewing applicants, collecting necessary program verifications, documenting customer needs, discussing service alternatives, assisting in the location of services, making contact with service providers, initiating referrals, and scheduling appointments.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced pressured environment, maintain accurate records, the ability to multi-task and remain calm and professional at all times.

Develops and maintains case files including case notes and tracking systems on all customers. Completes
required reports.

Performs miscellaneous tasks as required. This position requires the ability to respond to phone, email, mail and fax inquiries. Attends hearings, training and meetings regarding public assistance, social services related training and other educational programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous training and/or experience in a human services related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in a Human Services related field.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage diverse tasks.
  • Must be proficient in use of Word and must be able to quickly learn other computer programs as
    needed.

Note: Additional consideration may be given for years and types of experience and education beyond the minimum and preferred qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
