GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The primary purpose of the Maintenance Repair Worker 1 position is to perform various custodial duties and perform general maintenance duties.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: hand and power tools, fire extinguishers, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment, vacuum cleaners, and related custodial equipment.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee may be exposed to chemicals routinely found in custodial work environments, including cleaning solvents, detergents and chemicals. Additional hazards include ladders, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment, power tools and similar equipment, flammable and combustible liquids, bodily fluids and portable fire extinguishers; is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; must demonstrate the ability to perform the physical demands required of the position in accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s physical demands strength ratings. In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and/or department needs, may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend. JOB
JOB DUTIES in order of importance
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42 USC 12101: 50% Sweeps, mops, dusts, and cleans designated floors, furniture, windows, walls, and removes trash from building. Cleans and disinfects all bathrooms, commodes, lavatories, etc. Mops, strips, and polishes floors. Vacuums and shampoos carpets. 25% Assists Maintenance Superintendent/Maintenance Repair Worker 2 in performing scheduled maintenance duties such as carpentry work, painting, moving furniture, etc. takes initiative to complete minor repairs as discovered through routine cleaning processes. 10% Maintain stock of cleaning supplies, order supplies as necessary; provide regular cleaning reports to supervisor. Notifies supervisor about needed major repairs and cleaning problems. Secure, lock, and set alarm for building; report evidence of fire, illegal entry, and/or theft on premises. 10% Salt ice on sidewalks and other access/exit areas as necessary, sweep and clear debris from aprons, access areas, dumpster areas as necessary; help maintain, weed flower beds on agency grounds as necessary. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 5% (1) Performs other duties as assigned. (2) May be required to perform duties under supervision of the Athens County Red Cross during an emergency, in accordance with the ACDJFS Emergency Preparedness Plain and the Athens County Emergency Operation Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
An example of acceptable qualifications: Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Experience in performing general maintenance tasks (e.g. basic & semi-skilled electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and use of associated hand and power tools), grounds keeping activities, and custodial duties.

Knowledge of: the operation of power equipment, and other lawn and power tools; general grounds keeping procedures, repair, carpentry, plumbing electrical and painting; mixing chemicals, detergents, and other items used in cleaning process.
Skill in: basic math (addition, fractions, measurements), safety practices, time management, organizational skills, motor vehicle operation.
Ability to: read, comprehend and follow basic instructions; mix chemicals, detergents, and other items used in cleaning process, follow safety instructions and sanitation procedures; safely operate hand and power tools, fire extinguishers, lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooer, and all other custodial equipment.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIEMENTS: Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and must remain insurable under the County’s vehicle insurance plan.
